Best way to make a quick trip to Thailand?

I'm going to Thailand in October. We flew to Phuket, and a return flight to ten days time. We in two minds weather to book a hotel for the first night and then go from there, or a book for the whole trip. I'm looking to travel in Thailand, or as much as possible in ten days, anyway, ideas about the best places to visit / stay? We tried to make it cheaper, but they said no youth hostels. One of my friends have ridden past years and said he fell in amazing hotels around £ 10 per night ….

10 days is not enough to see in Thailand. Sense Plan discount travel on trains (which are now on strike) or by bus. Both have a day trip in time where you can go anywhere in Thailand at least 2 hours. My recommendation would be to go to Phuket for a few days then take a boat to Koh Phi Phi, then a boat to Krabi. Not sure when you go to Thailand or Phuket or Bangkok? I book the first nights in advance and no.
