Touring Thailand … Is it better to plan your own or go to something that is ready tour?

Me and a friend are ready next summer going on a trip to somewhere like Thailand, but were not sure if its better plan their travel or booking a trip through a company that gives you an itinerary and accommodations for whole trip? I think the tour to be a safer option since we are two girls and traveling alone, but I hear that someone can work more expensive as that may give advice? Thanks
